Netizen Says This Is The Local Spot That "Feels The Least Like Singapore"
Have you ever stumbled upon a place in Singapore that makes you feel like you've been transported away from the city, as though you're on vacation?
Well, for one Xiaohongshu user, that place is Tudor Court Shopping Gallery, located on Tanglin Road, just on the outskirts of Orchard Road’s busy shopping areas.
"This is the spot in Singapore that feels the least like Singapore... There’s a row of shops that looks like it came straight out of a Swiss village," the OP penned.
Tudor Court is a row of heritage buildings dating back to the 1920s. With its white walls and dark timber beams, it gives off a uniquely European vibe.
Originally built as housing for postal workers at the nearby Tanglin Post Office, it later served as the headquarters of the Singapore Tourism Board and was conserved in 2005. Today, it houses boutiques, art retailers, and small shops — a huge contrast to the modern malls located nearby.
We totally see why the OP feels that way, as the gallery does feel like stepping onto a tiny street from another place and another era.
It appears many netizens share the same sentiments, with some sharing similar photos they took while walking along the same street. One even shared a snap of the place at night, adding that it really brought to mind "the streets in Northern Europe".
Another wrote: "My husband’s office is nearby, and walking around here, I can't help but feel like his work environment is way too chill."
Others also appreciated that Tudor Court is generally less crowded than the main shopping district despite being located in town, though this may also be because shops there are typically considered more "high-end", catering to a more niche crowd.
Still, its architecture is still something many admire, with a netizen commenting: "It’s been preserved for now. Hope it doesn’t get demolished. So many beautiful old buildings have already disappeared."
Touché.
