The annual Star Awards is the one major occasion when celebrities strive to look their absolute best, but that often means going on a strict diet beforehand.

Especially for local actress Dawn Yeoh, who apparently gained 10kg over the past few months, the clock is definitely ticking.

The 39-year-old even took to Instagram earlier this month to ask netizens for weight-loss tips.

It turns out the Emerald Hill star had been eating a little too much during the Chinese New Year period and unknowingly put on quite a bit of weight.

Dawn later told Chinese media Zaobao.sg that she'd already lost 4kg through exercise, but is still 6kg away from her goal. The actress hopes to return to her original weight but did not reveal what that target weight is.

According to Dawn, this is not her first time shedding kilos for Star Awards — she previously lost 4kg in just a week through exercise and diet.

As for her outfit this year, Dawn has tried on a few outfits but has not made a final decision yet.

Dawn is nominated for four awards this year — Best Supporting Actress for her role as Kang Sili in Emerald Hill, Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes, Most Hated Villain, and MYPICK! Best CP (Couple Pairing) with Emerald Hill on-screen parter Romeo Tan.

She has not snagged a single award at the ceremony despite being in the industry for more than 20 years.

Of the four, the Best Supporting Actress front-runner admitted that she most wants to win an acting award.

“I think everyone has their own strengths, so it’s really hard to say. I can only say that I really want to win," she said when asked about her odds.

As for Top 10, Dawn shared that she hasn't been campaigning for votes at all.

"But my friends and fans are helping me. It’s really all thanks to them.”

She only has less than a week left.

Will her revived fame from Kang Sili finally help her bag a trophy?
