Cynthia Koh Hit By Bangkok Flight Cancellation, Accidentally Double-Books After Thai Airways Rebooks Her On SQ Flight

With the recent heavy floods in Thailand, here's a PSA for travellers to consider having a plan B before flying over.

Mediacorp actress Cynthia Koh took to Instagram on Sep 30 to share that she'd be flying to Bangkok to attend a wellness retreat.

After hearing about the situation in Thailand amid the massive floods, the 52-year-old decided it would be more convenient to reduce her baggage to a 7kg carry-on so that she wouldn't have to wait for her luggage upon arrival.

"Normally I don't bring much on board but this time no choice, I don't want to join the BKK airport chaos," she wrote.

But despite coming up with a back-up plan, what Cynthia wasn't expecting was for her flight to be cancelled a few hours later.

"No text, no email. I key in departure into my iChangi and I got this rude shock," she lamented, adding that she tried calling the Thai Airways hotline but no one answered.

"All their flights are cancelled today but the rest of the aircraft are departing. How?" asked Cynthia.

She later updated that the airline did post about the cancellation but she was asleep at that time.

In the end, the actress decided to book another flight on Scoot.

"The retreat didn't cancel the event so just have to stay calm and navigate. I'm not upset though, I think it's good that one must experience this to handle such a situation."

But here's the plot twist.

Upon reaching the airport, Cynthia realised that the situation was not as bad as she had thought.

"It was quite silly of me, next time I know the protocol. If your flight cancelled and they're part of an alliance like Star Alliance, they will probably put you on a Star Alliance flight," she said.

In her case, Thai Airways had actually arranged for her to be on a Singapore Airlines flight.

"Because I so kiasu right, I went to buy a Scoot flight. So, [give up] the Scoot flight lah, it's okay," she mused.

Cynthia later updated her followers that she'd safely landed in Bangkok and, as expected, saw many people waiting for their baggage.

"So if you're flying off today or tomorrow, I think travelling lighter is better," she advised.
