TVB Actor Lives On Just S$17 A Day So His Kids Can Pursue Football & K-Pop Dreams
Years of sacrifice appear to be paying off for Tsui Wing, whose son is now a professional footballer while his daughter is training to become a K-pop idol.
For many parents, sacrificing for their children comes naturally and TVB actor Tsui Wing is no exception.
The 51-year-old recently revealed he spends only HK$100 (about S$17) a day, so his two children can pursue their dreams.
His 19-year-old son Karson is now a professional footballer, while his 10-year-old daughter Sum Yee hopes to break into the K-pop industry someday.
Best known for dramas such as Best Selling Secrets (2007) and Battle of The Seven Sisters (2021), Tsui Wing shared that acting alone no longer provides stable income, which pushed him to explore different business ventures to support his family financially.
One of those ventures was a tuition centre business, which reportedly suffered six-figure losses during the pandemic. Still, the actor refused to give up.
Instead, he decided to start over by investing more than HK$1mil (S$170K) in a hotpot restaurant with friends.
Tsui Wing lives a frugal lifestyle too. Excluding driving and parking costs, he says his daily expenses amount to only around HK$100 (S$17).
He also revealed that he hands all his earnings and savings to his wife to manage the family finances, business operations and investments as he is “not good with money”.
His sacrifices appear to be paying off.
Karson previously trained in the UK and now plays for Hong Kong Premier League club Tai Po FC.
Meanwhile, Sum Yee is currently attending a Korean idol academy in Hong Kong, where she is learning K-pop dance and working towards her dream of debuting in a girl group.
However, years of hard work and stress have also taken a toll on the actor’s health.
Tsui Wing shared that a recent medical check-up revealed he has a fatty liver. His FibroScan results reportedly showed a fatty liver index of 301, well above the healthy range.
Fortunately, doctors said his liver fibrosis level remains normal, meaning the condition can still be reversed through lifestyle changes.
He has since started eating more lightly, cutting down on oily foods and trying to sleep earlier whenever possible. He also admitted that overnight filming schedules often cause his blood pressure to spike, making him realise he can no longer ignore his health.
Thankfully, his condition is not severe enough to require medication for now.
