Chinese actress Liu Xiaoqing, 75, is in the headlines again — and yes, it’s for playing a teenage girl.

The screen veteran has been criticised for taking on youthful roles before. She recently portrayed 14-year-old Wu Zetian in 武则天传奇 Wu Zetian Chuan Qi, sparking widespread debate. Now, she’s back in the spotlight with micro-drama 锦绣安然 Jin Xiu An Ran.

In the series, she plays Su Wanqing, a young embroiderer, and even shares a romantic kissing scene with actor Jin Jia, who is 30 years younger.

Despite the drama’s heavy soft-focus filters, the huge age gap is impossible to ignore and the kiss quickly shot to the top of trending charts.

Netizens had plenty to say.

Some commented, “Grandma Qing, please stop,” while others questioned whether it was necessary for her to insist on playing teenage roles instead of more age-appropriate characters.

Another quipped: “She could be his grandmother — how could he bring himself to kiss her?”

Some even called it a “work injury”. The comment took on a life of its own when it received a ‘like’ from someone involved in the drama.

Many initially thought it was from male lead Jin Jia, but it was later clarified that the like came from supporting actor Gu Yanxiu instead — adding another twist to the online storm.

The kiss that got everyone talking.
She's 75, but her character is a teen.
