Single’s Inferno Contestant Rumoured To Be Former South Korean President's Grandson
The 27-year-old contestant has not denied the allegations though he has since deleted his Instagram account.
If there’s one thing Single’s Inferno fans love more than watching hot people flirt at a glacial pace, it’s finding out more about the backgrounds of the cast.
Wait, did you think people were tuning in just to see good looking people find love? Please.
The Netflix South Korean reality dating series premiered its fifth season on January 20 with 15 contestants.
Since then, rumours have begun circulating about Lee Sung Hun aka Samuel Lee, 27, who works as a quantitative trader in New York.
Netizens are convinced that the UC Berkeley graduate is allegedly the maternal grandson of former South Korean president Lee Myung Bak, due to their physical resemblance.
Lee Myung Bak served as South Korea’s 10th president from 2008 to 2013.
South Korean online forums also claim Sung Hun’s mother is allegedly Myung Bak's eldest daughter, born in 1971.
Sung Hun's father is said to be a senior executive handling overseas legal affairs at Samsung Electronics.
None of these claims has been confirmed by Sung Hun or his representatives.
In 2018, Lee Myung Bak was arrested and indicted on charges including bribery, embezzlement and tax evasion, and sentenced to 17 years in prison.
He was later granted a presidential pardon by then-President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was also ironically sentenced to five years in jail in January 2026 for abuse of power, falsifying documents, and obstructing justice related to his martial law attempt.
And if that wasn’t enough drama, Sung Hun’s alleged family background isn’t the only reason he is trending.
A Taiwanese daily recently resurfaced older rumours claiming Sung Hun was involved in a love triangle with influencers Kevin Nin and Hanna Yang, allegedly facing cheating accusations.
But Sung Hun has since dismissed these rumours and revealed that he is considering taking legal action for defamation.
Shortly after Single’s Inferno aired, Sung Hun changed his Instagram handle from @ssamuellee to @snhgnl, before deactivating his account entirely on January 21, just one day after the show’s premiere.
