"Because It's Singapore": Jessica Hsuan Explains Why She "Felt Very Safe" Filming Revealing Scenes Here
Jessica Hsuan has filmed her fair share of dramas over the years, but she recently opened up about why filming in Singapore puts her especially at ease. In particular, she remembers her experience filming Mediacorp drama Kill Sera Sera.
In a recent interview with Hong Kong media HK01, the 55-year-old opened up about the challenges of filming the 2025 local mystery drama — yes, the very series that earned her the Best Actress trophy at that year's Star Awards.
Jessica played a heartbroken mother obsessed with finding her daughter's killer in Kill Sera Sera.
She was asked about filming of the revealing scenes, including one in which she wore a nightgown and another where she bared her back.
"It wasn't that much, just a shower scene! We weren't worried because the producers told us before we signed the contract that there would be scenes like these and asked if we were okay with them," she said.
"Because it's Singapore, we felt very safe. Singapore has its limits when it comes to what can be shown anyway."
Jessica admitted she was surprised that a Singapore production could be this bold before learning that Kill Sera Sera was made for streaming rather than television.
"I think doing sexy scenes is fine. Although I rarely take on this kind of role, if it's necessary for the story and makes sense, I'm willing to do it if I think is okay."
Jessica also had a ball filming alongside four-time Golden Bell Best Actor Christopher Lee.
"Christopher, who plays my husband, is at the very top when it comes to acting. He helped me a lot, and working with him was so comfortable," she shared.
She added that while Chris comes across as quiet, mature and composed with plenty of charisma, he's actually "a lot of fun".
"He knows I'm a foodie, so he kept ordering takeaway from local Singapore eateries I'd never tried before," she gushed.
"Whenever everyone was feeling drained because filming was so emotionally heavy, we'd treat the cast and crew to meals to lift everyone's spirits. Christopher is really good at organising things like that."
Reflecting on her Best Actress win at Star Awards, Jessica said awards are never on her mind while filming.
"To me, an award is the icing on the cake. The most important thing is enjoying the process, and I truly enjoyed every part of it," she said.
"It was incredibly tough, but winning the award made me feel that all the hard work, emotions and time we invested had been recognised. It's like people are even thanking us for the effort we've put into it."
Jessica was even happier that her on-screen husband, Christopher, took home the Best Actor award that same night.
"They say it's rare for both the leading actor and actress from the same drama to win. Later, he told me that when he heard my name announced, he thought there was no way he'd win as well," Jessica recalled.
"But then he did! We were absolutely over the moon backstage."
