Hidden Cameras In HK Gym Changing Rooms Spark Privacy Concerns — Here’s How TVB Actress Hera Chan Protects Herself

Many people use the changing rooms at gyms after a workout. But one Hong Kong actress is taking extra precautions. 

Recently, a 34-year-old construction site foreman in Hong Kong was arrested for allegedly installing pinhole cameras in the changing rooms of popular gym chain 24/7 Fitness.

The incident came to light after a staff member reportedly found a pinhole camera wired into the false ceiling of an individual cubicle at the gym’s outlet in Sha Tin.

Officers subsequently found similar hidden recording devices in two other cubicles.

In a recent interview with HK01, TVB actress Hera Chan shared that she is a regular at fitness centres, though she rarely uses their changing rooms.

“It’s more convenient for me to put on my workout clothes at home before heading to a nearby gym. After exercising, I’ll just go straight home to shower and change,” she said.

That said, the 31-year-old remains extra vigilant whenever she has to change outside.

“No matter where I am, I’ll always be careful. Whenever I need to change clothes, including when I’m filming, I’ll make sure I’m protected while changing,” she said.

“For example, I’ll use a jacket to cover myself, covering what’s underneath before changing. I’ve developed this habit over time.”

However, Hera said she does not specifically check her surroundings for hidden cameras.

“I don’t specifically look around because technology is so advanced nowadays. It’s not necessarily just about pinhole cameras; there could be all sorts of possibilities wherever you go,” she said.

“I think the most important thing is to have the mindset that everyone should know how to protect themselves,” she added.
