End Of Tax Controversy? Cha Eun Woo Pays S$17.23Mil In Outstanding Taxes; Apologises Again

South Korean star Cha Eun Woo is once again addressing his tax controversy, months after the issue first made headlines and dented his previously squeaky-clean image.

In a new statement released on April 8 via his Instagram, the actor-singer apologised again to fans and confirmed that he has fully paid all outstanding taxes amounting to 20 billion won (S$17.23 million).

Eun Woo, 29, who is currently serving his mandatory military service, said he is trying to close this chapter and hopes to avoid causing further confusion moving forward.

The Wonderful World actor is scheduled to be discharged on January 27, 2027.

In his post, Eun Woo also addressed the controversy surrounding a company he had set up.

“I established the corporation to stabilise my career during a very troubling time. However, in retrospect, I was not thinking it through during the process, and I bear sole responsibility, not my family nor the company,” he wrote.

Eun Woo also revealed that he has dropped any legal action related to the matter.

Earlier reports by South Korea’s National Tax Service alleged that the company functioned as a legal entity with no substantive business operations or physical office.

It was also claimed that his income had been split between his main agency Fantagio, his mother’s company, and himself, raising further questions about the arrangement.

Fans flooded Eun Woo Instagram post with messages of support, expressing confidence that he would take responsibility and move forward.

Others, however, were less forgiving, questioning how such a substantial amount could be overlooked or dismissed as an oversight.

Amid the allegations, several brands, including skincare label Abib and Shinhan Bank, have either removed promotional content or ended partnerships with him.

However, his upcoming Netflix drama The WONDERfools remains on track for release in the coming months.

In addition to his apology, Cha Eun Woo also wrote on IG that he bears the sole responsibility, not his family, nor his company
