1. Dim Sum
Fung Shing Restaurant
It’s Hong Kong. Of course you have to yum cha and eat dim sum. Founded in 1954, Fung Shing Restaurant exudes that old school vibe with equally nostalgic bites. It specialises in Shunde cuisine, which prioritises the freshness of ingredients without masking them with strong spices and sauces.
Here are two items you simply must order at this Michelin-recommended restaurant: Soup dumplings bursting with pork, shrimp, dried conpoy, mushroom and superior broth, and their Daliang-style scrambled egg white with milk.
Address: G/F and 1/F, Goldfield Mansion, 62-68 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong Island

2. Cha Chaan Teng
Gold Garden Café
This cha chaan teng in Sham Shui Po has been drawing locals and tourists alike for almost three decades. Everyone is here for their star dish — the Egg Tart that put them on the foodie map. Think jiggly egg custard nestled in an oh-so-flaky pastry bursting with buttery flavour. Buy at least two so you can devour one on the spot and savour the other for tea or supper.
Need something more substantial? Their noodles with beef and satay sauce, paired with their fragrant milk tea, will hit the spot

3. Dai Pai Dong
Chui Wo Lee
Real foodies know that we should never judge an eatery by its shopfront. Hidden behind Chui Wo Lee’s dated aesthetics is a menu that will satisfy your tummy 24/7. Yes, they’re literally open all day, serving over 40 types of dim sum from 2.30am. Come 5am, they’ll dish out breakfast faves like congee and cheung fun.
The rest of the day, you can tuck into their hot faves like their signature stir-fry with green beans, squid, dried shrimp and cashews. Don’t forget their baby pigeon with a delightfully crispy skin.

4. Old-School Hong Kong Bakes
Sai Kung Cafe & Bakery
Some neighbourhood bakeries are simply too good to gatekeep. Sai Kung Cafe & Bakery is one such gem. Their ovens pop out classic Hong Kong pastries throughout the day to meet the never-ending demand. Loyal fans swear by their pineapple buns served with butter, Portuguese egg tarts and fresh milk tarts.
Their pineapple bun, which Hong Kong star Carina Lau praised as the best in Hong Kong, deserves special mention. Kneaded using a triple-fermentation dough, the crust has a unique crisp inspired by cookie and walnut pastry techniques. This multi-textural experience is both light, crunchy, and super satisfying.

5. Dessert
Ho Kee Dessert
We’ll leave the trending desserts – think everything Dubai Chocolate – to the TikTokers, thank you. When we’re in Hong Kong, we crave for traditional Cantonese-style sweets. Ho Kee is best known for their herbal egg tea, a dish not commonly found in Singapore. Don’t confuse this with the cha ye dan, which are hard-boiled eggs stewed with tea leaves. Ho Kee’s dessert version is double-boiled with lotus seed, mistletoe and mulberry, this nourishing dessert is as good for your body as it tastes.
If you don’t fancy the herbal egg tea’s slightly medicinal taste, go for their classics. You can’t go wrong with their black sesame soup and mango sago.
Address: Shops 111 and 122, G/F, I-Feng Mansions, 237A To Kwa Wan Road, To Kwa Wan, Kowloon
Telephone no: +852 9195 1017
6. Seafood On An Island
Rainbow Seafood Restaurant (Halal certified)
When Rainbow Seafood Restaurant was founded in 1984, this humble family-run eatery had only 40 seats. It has since expanded into a mega 800-seater and is one of the largest restaurants on Lamma Island.
Their tanks full of live seafood ensures that your meal is as fresh as it gets. They also use traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients to showcase the island’s fishing heritage. We’ll happily cross the sea to try their signatures, such as the award-winning typhoon shelter crab, extra-spicy king prawns, salt-and-pepper squid, and baked lobster with cheese.
Muslim diners, you can enjoy your feast without worries as Rainbow Seafood Restaurant has a separate halal kitchen.

7. Michelin-starred Western Fine Dining
Amber
In the mood for something fancy? This three-Michelin-star restaurant with Green Star rating is worth the splurge. Established in 2005, the elegantly designed Amber at Mandarin Oriental The Landmark dishes up equally elegant flavours. Culinary Director Richard Ekkebus marries classic French techniques and exquisite ingredients such as local organic produce, sustainably harvested seafood, and Fair Trade agricultural commodities.
Their menu is dairy-free and tries to be less meat-centric. Some of their standout dishes include red sea urchin with cauliflower, lobster, and Daurenki Tsar Imperial Caviar. Make a reservation for their tasty eats that are good for your belly and the environment.

8. Masterchefs’ Pick
The Hua Restaurant
We’ve saved the biggest flex for last. The Hua Restaurant has earned thumbs-up from Hong Kong’s most discerning tongues to be named ‘The Best of the Best Masterchef Recommendation Restaurant 2025’. Quite the honour, indeed!
Tuck into their hearty Sichuan, Cantonese and Chiu Chow cuisines. From the Sichuan menu, their saffron pickled cabbage fish is a popular choice. The Cantonese and Chiu Chow must-tries include braised white lung soup with apricot juice, flamed plum pagoda pork and glutinous rice with crab roe.
