Singapore School Songs Get Remixed By AI Into K-Pop, Punk Rock & Other Unexpected Music Genres

Ever wondered what school songs would sound like if they were turned into K-pop or even punk rock songs? 

With the help of AI, almost anything feels possible these days, including reimagining school songs and turning them into entirely different musical styles. Thanks to the TikTok page Recess Remix, we now get a sample of what local school songs might sound like if they were performed by Mandopop artists, punk rock bands, indie singers, or even emo groups.

With more than 1,800 followers, the account has created remixes of many school anthems, including Deyi Secondary School’s song reimagined as K-pop, North Vista Secondary School’s as a J-pop track, and Maris Stella High School’s as a Mandopop-rock tune. 

And we’ll say the results are surprisingly accurate, totally nailing the vibe of each genre they are meant to mimic. On top of that, the songs are unexpectedly fun to listen to as well. 

Bet you’d never guess that Chung Cheng High School’s Mandarin anthem could be turned into something that sounds like a Jolin Tsai track, or that Raffles Institution’s school song could be reworked into a Fall Out Boy-style song. 

Some netizens were thoroughly amused by the remixes, and many praised the new versions. The songs also reached alumni who were taken on a trip down memory lane, sort of.

Others joked about the pronunciation of certain lyrics, and how some of the pop remixes ended up sounding a little too much like a “NDP song” for their liking.

Many have since flooded the comments with requests for their own school songs to get the remix treatment, including those from Anderson Secondary and Balestier Secondary, with others still patiently waiting their turn.

Who knew that AI could help unlock a whole new way to remix nostalgia?
