Move over, Prince Mateen of Brunei. Singapore apparently has its own good-looking polo player who's also serving the nation in uniform.

8days.sg first came across 19-year-old Jed Gabler in an Instagram interview, and let's just say we weren't the only ones who noticed him.

The comments were filled with people asking about the young polo player, so naturally, we did some kaypoh-ing.

Born to Singaporean mum Lynly Fong and Australian-born dad Jonathan Gabler, the Singapore national polo player is also part of Singapore's 2025 SEA Games polo squad.

His TikTok account @jed_gabler has racked up more than 3.5 million likes, with some of his polo videos attracting millions of views.

"The hottest polo player I've ever seen," declared one netizen, while another asked the question many were probably already wondering: "Is he taken?"

"No, I'm not seeing anyone at the moment. Between NS, polo and exams, my schedule's pretty full right now!" Jed tells us.

And despite all the comments about his looks, Jed insists he doesn't really see what everyone else is seeing.

"I've never thought about myself that way. There's been a bit more attention in the last year or so, which has been really kind, but I still don't quite know how to respond to it. Mostly I just find it funny and try not to take it too seriously,” he says.

He was equally amused when we told him netizens had started comparing him to Brunei's Prince Mateen, another rather famous good-looking polo player.

"Haha, honestly that's the first time I've heard that comparison! It's very flattering!" he says.

With all the attention he's getting online, we also had to ask the obvious question: Is modelling or showbiz something he'd consider?

"I'd be open to it if the right thing came along," he says. "My stepbrother is a film director, so being on a movie set and trying acting would be a pretty cool experience."

But for now, it's all about polo - after all, he comes from a family where polo is practically in their blood.

According to the Singapore Polo Club website, Jed is quite the prodigy.

While most of us were still figuring out how to ride a bicycle, he was already comfortable on horseback at just three years old.

Jed went on to take up polo at eight. At 12, he reportedly became the youngest player to make his debut for the Singapore Polo Club in 2019. Last year, he was named as a member of Singapore's 2025 SEA Games polo squad.

His polo career has since taken him well beyond our little red dot. In addition to Argentina, he's trained and competed in Spain, India, Australia and the United Kingdom.

His weekends don't sound particularly sedentary either.

"Honestly, every day feels a bit like Groundhog Day, in a good way. I usually wake up, hit the gym, play some tennis, and then head to the polo club, where I spend most of my time riding," he tells us.

He's also studying for his university entrance exams.

Jed hopes to pursue something in economics and finance, ideally in London, after completing NS.

And wherever he ends up, he has no plans to stop playing for Singapore.

"I definitely want to keep representing Singapore for as long as I can, as representing your country is a real source of pride, and it means a lot to me," he says.

His mum, Lynly, is also an accomplished Singaporean polo player who started riding at the Singapore Polo Club when she was seven.

She has represented Singapore internationally and has been named the Equestrian Federation of Singapore's Polo Player of the Year multiple times.

"My mum has been teaching me and stick-and-balling with me since I first picked up the sport, so a lot of my habits come straight from her," says Jed.

"On the field I'm basically her minion,” he jokes.

Hey, his words, not ours.

The pair even played together during a Guards Polo Club exhibition at La Aguada in Argentina, where Lynly walked away with the Most Valuable Player award.

"I've never really seen her as competition for an award. I'm always just really proud and impressed when she plays well, and she earned it. Plus, she usually gives me the prize afterwards anyway, so I'd say I came out of it fine,” he beams.

His dad, Jonathan Gabler, is equally into the game, and founded Queenstown Polo, an equestrian facility in New Zealand.

With his parents so involved in the sport, you'd be forgiven for wondering whether Jed ever much choice about had picking up a polo mallet.

"I wouldn't call it pressure at all. Growing up, whenever we travelled on holiday, we somehow always ended up at a polo field, so the sport has been around me my whole life. It felt very natural to start playing, but I genuinely fell in love with it myself,” he says.
