Jack Neo Uses AI To Recreate Lee Kuan Yew’s Voice For SG60 Music Video
How do you feel about hearing the late Lee Kuan Yew’s voice like this?
Local director Jack Neo is tinkering with AI again.
This time, the 65-year-old used AI recreate Singapore’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s voice for his new song for Singapore’s 60th birthday titled ‘We Are Singapore’.
The late Lee Kuan Yew’s image and voice appear at the end of the music video, where he is seen declaring, “I wish Singapore a happy 60th birthday. Happy birthday!”
Though clearly AI-generated — the voice carried a slightly mechanical tone, with hints of a Hong Kong accent — the mimicry is strikingly similar.
We also wonder what Singapore’s first Prime Minister would have thought about his likeness being used this way.
Explaining his decision to 8world, Jack says: “Singapore owes much of its prosperity to the founding Prime Minister. His contributions were immense, and many people still feel a deep sense of loss over his passing”.
“That is why, in this patriotic song, I wanted to use modern AI to let him bless Singapore once more, to celebrate with us on our 60th year. Personally, I feel this is very meaningful,” he added.
The video also features Jack and what looks like AI-generated versions of our cabinet of ministers and celebs like Terence Cao, Tang Miaoling and Colin Chee. Oh, and singing babies.
According to Jack, he wrote the lyrics, while the composition, arrangement, and vocals were completed using AI.
“I enjoy writing lyrics because I have many feelings about different things, and writing is a good outlet. This piece is my deep confession of love to our nation, “ he said.
In February this year, Jack also used AI to generate a video of his late comedy partner Moses Lim bidding his fans farewell in Mandarin.
