Ferlyn G Loses 120K Followers After Instagram Account Hacked
For a public figure, their social media account is undoubtedly one of the main tools for building a career and defining their personal brand.
So just imagine how painful it is to lose all that hard work overnight.
Yesterday, a new account by local actress Ferlyn G — @ferlyngileen — suddenly surfaced on Instagram. Before you wonder if it's yet another scammer or impersonator, no, this one's the real deal.
On the new account, the bio read: "A new awakening. I'll explain soon... please give me some time".
Meanwhile, the bio on the 33-year-old's original account, @ferlyngofficial, was changed to: "Important update. This account is currently private and [will] be deleted."
The now-defunct page, which Ferlyn has been using for years, has 120K followers.
"Please follow my new account: ferlyngileen," urged the former K-pop girl group Skarf member.
Though Ferlyn's two accounts did not divulge much about what had happened, it was later revealed through the socials of her showbiz pals that her initial page had actually been hacked.
Many of Ferlyn's celeb friends, especially her Emerald Hill co-stars, have also taken to their respective Instagram Stories to help the actress publicise her new page.
"Ferlyn's previous account was hacked. Restarting from zero isn't easy, please spare a moment to follow her new account and show some love," wrote Mediacorp actor Romeo Tan.
Jesseca Liu also urged her fans to follow Ferlyn as her "old IG account has issues".
"It's tough to restart all over again, especially so when our industry judges us based on our followings and numbers. Hope you can give this girl some strength and continue to show her the support she strongly needs right now," said Benjamin Tan.
At press time, Ferlyn's new account has already ganied 3,559 new followers.
