Chen Ning Reveals What's Next After Her Cafe Shutters In November

For the past six years, YES 933 DJ Chen Ning has had an alter ego: the co-owner of local café House Downstairs.

But the 34-year-old is sadly about to bid farewell to that title.

Earlier this week (Aug 27), Chen Ning shared on Instagram that the cafe she started during Covid19 will close its doors on November 3.

House Downstairs is located at Ulu Pandan Community Club in Ghim Moh, and serves a mixture of Asian and brunch fare including dry laksa, crayfish paofan, and toast.

It’s run daily by Chen Ning's barista pal Chong Yanjing, also 34, and they told 8days.sg in 2023 that they have another silent partner.

"We wish we could have more time but some things are beyond our control; unfortunately our lease at Ulu Pandan CC is coming to an end and our last day of operation will be 3rd November 2026," she wrote.

She also quipped that she and Yanjing are "still friends after six years of House Downstairs" because there's "no problem a beer can’t solve".

"Goodbyes are always tough, especially when each and every one of you has made our space more than just a space," said Chen Ning, describing the cafe as a place that has become their "second home"

Is this the end of her F&B ventures?

The jock told Chinese media vibes by 8world that they'll "take some time to rest and recharge first".

"If we come across a suitable location after that, we’ll consider it!” she chirped.
