Taiwanese Actor Goes Viral For Offering To Switch Seats So Two Friends Could Sit Together On Flight To Kyoto

It’s not uncommon for people travelling together to end up sitting apart on a flight. And more often than not, fellow passengers aren't always willing to swap seats for a plethora of reasons.  

Unless you’re lucky enough to bump into Taiwanese actor Wayne Song.

Recently, the 31-year-old found himself trending on Japanese social media thanks to an act of kindness on a flight to Japan.

According to reports, Wayne was traveling to Kyoto when he noticed two Japanese female passengers who appeared to be friends but were not seated together.

He then took the initiative to offer to switch seats with one of them so that the two could sit together.

Touched by his kindness, one of the women wanted to give Wayne a Taiwanese taro pastry as a token of appreciation, but he politely declined, saying that he hoped she would keep the Taiwanese souvenir as a memento of her trip.

Little did he know that their brief encounter would not end there.

When they arrived in Kyoto, the Japanese passenger caught up with him and personally handed him a dorayaki — coincidentally, in his favourite red bean and mochi flavour — along with a thank-you note.

“There are so many people in our lives who will only pass each other by. Being able to leave behind a memory is a kind of fate. I think this is what travelling is all about,” the actor later mused.

A netizen subsequently shared the story on Threads, and the post quickly attracted more than 2 million views. 

Wayne has since been dubbed the “tall, handsome Taiwanese guy” by Japanese netizens, with many also praising him for his kindness.
