Martial Arts Legend Sammo Hung, 74, Is Now Doing Livestream Sales, Shows Up For Work In Electric Wheelchair

If you grew up watching Sammo Hung kicking butt on the big screen in the '80s, you'd probably never have imagined seeing the martial arts legend doing livestream sales one day.

But here we are.

The 74-year-old Hong Kong action star recently shared a video on Douyin documenting a work trip to Guangzhou.

And while Sammo may no longer be performing the gravity-defying stunts that made him famous, he's certainly not letting that stop him from working.

In the video, the veteran actor was seen arriving at the venue in a motorised wheelchair before getting on with his work commitments.

According to reports, Sammo and his eldest son, Hong Kong actor Timmy Hung, were in Guangzhou to participate in a livestream e-commerce sale.

And even after the session ended, Sammo wasn't quite done for the day.

He was also seen patiently signing photographs for fans.

Talk about dedication.

Of course, fans who've followed Sammo's career would know that his mobility hasn't been what it used to be.

After decades of performing physically demanding martial arts stunts, the actor has accumulated numerous injuries.

He underwent knee surgery in 2017, and his physical condition has since led him to scale back his on-screen appearances.

But if you think Sammo is ready to put his feet up and enjoy retirement, think again.

In fact, the action legend has made it clear on several occasions that he has no intention of calling it quits just yet.

During an appearance on Hong Kong wellness programme HiEggo in 2020, Sammo was asked about his retirement plans.

His response? Classic Sammo.

"I'm not resting now. I'll be able to 'rest for good' later," he said. "A lot of people tell me to retire, but why should I? Firstly, I can still talk and scold people. Secondly, I can still think. Isn't that why the heavens gave me these abilities?"

Well, you can't argue with that logic.

Sammo explained that as long as he remained physically and mentally capable of working, he saw no reason to stop.

"When I've really deteriorated and don't want to embarrass myself, then I'll retire. I still have the opportunity to work now, and I want to continue," he added.

And it seems his attitude towards work hasn't changed over the years.

In 2024, Sammo once again reiterated that retirement wasn't on his mind.

"Perhaps I was an ox in my previous life. I feel most comfortable when I'm working."

Well, after spending more than six decades entertaining audiences, it's clear that Sammo isn't quite ready to step away from the spotlight.

Despite his limited mobility, Sammo is still alert and raring to go when it comes to work
More hardworking than some of us in our 20s (hehe)
