Evergreen Mak Once Worked Delivery Jobs To Pay School Fees And Support His Family

Taking on part-time jobs to earn some extra pocket money is something many of us can relate to.

For former TVB actor Evergreen Mak, however, it was once a necessity.

Recently, the 57-year-old, who serves as the brand ambassador for Sailing Brand Jiujiang Double-Distilled Rice Wine, spent a day working as a deliveryman, personally delivering goods to neighbourhoods including To Kwa Wan, Sham Shui Po and Mong Kok.

The most impressive part?

Evergreen is currently recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), yet completed the deliveries on crutches.

According to the actor, he wanted to experience the job firsthand as the brand's spokesperson and better understand its customers.

As it turns out, this wasn't his first stint as a deliveryman.

"When I was young, I took on summer jobs delivering goods to the docks and loading them onto ships," he revealed.

"I needed to earn extra money to help support my family and pay my school fees, so I also worked as a shop assistant and deliveryman."

This time, though, it came with an added challenge.

It was his first time making deliveries while recovering from a serious injury.

"I accidentally fell and got hurt at an event with a large crowd. At first, I didn't realise the injury was that serious, but it turned out that my right ACL was almost completely torn," recalled Evergreen.

His doctor has since advised him to minimise walking while monitoring whether the ligament can heal naturally over the next three months.

"If it doesn't, I'll have to undergo surgery," he said, adding that he has never suffered such a serious injury before.
