Benz Hui, 73, Once Turned Down A Job In Malaysia That Promised Him A House As Payment, Says He Regrets That Decision Now
Well, you win some, you lose some.

Hongkong actor Benz Hui, 73, recently headed to Malaysia to attend an event as the celeb spokesperson for a Malaysian seafood restaurant.
Apart from Benz, his wife, as well as his daughter, Charmaine Hui, her husband and mother-in-law went on the trip as well.
When speaking to the Malaysian media, the actor joked: “ The [seafood restaurant] boss covered our airfare, hotel and meals, so we’re [all] here!”
Benz went on to reveal that the boss is a very kind man, who used his profits from the restaurant to establish an education fund. Therefore, he didn’t fuss over the endorsement fee that was offered to him.
Benz, who became a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) over 30 years ago, also clarified that he has not immigrated to Singapore, despite spending most of his time here over the past few years.
He shared that whenever he has work in Hongkong, he would return there for an extended period.
The media also asked if Benz intends to buy real estate in Malaysia. After all, he does own a house in Singapore that's reportedly worth S$4mil.
Benz then revealed that he was once invited to an event in Malaysia and was promised a house there as compensation.
However, Benz turned down the offer 'cos he was too busy then, a decision that he regrets today.
He also revealed that while his daughter’s three cafes in Singapore are doing relatively well, she has no plans to expand to Malaysia yet.
“It’s tough to hire workers now, there’s a shortage of manpower, and I can’t help much too, all I can do is help to eat,” he laughed.
Finally, Benz would like everyone to know that he’s not retired.
He's still raring to go, even though he has cut back on the number of projects he takes on. The actor’s most recent work was the Chinese movie Embrace Again, which was released in 2021. His last project with TVB was also last year, with a supporting role in Armed Reaction 2021.
Benz shared that he’s received a number of offers from China, but filming was delayed due to the pandemic.
“I have not retired yet! I still want to continue acting,” he emphasised. In fact, Benz wants to be just like Patrick Tse, 85, who won his first Best Actor award of his career at the recent Hongkong Film Awards.
“I want to be like him, and continue acting in my eighties,” Benz said.
