Last week, Chinese actor Max Zhang, 51, revealed he had health scare in April when he suffered a heart attack when holidaying with his wife, Hong Kong actress Ada Choi, 51, and their three kids in Singapore.

Speaking at the press conference for her new TVB drama Behind The Queens, her first in eight years, Ada shared more details about the “terrifying” ordeal, admitting she felt both guilty and shaken.

It happened when she and their kids, Zoe, 14, Chloe, 11, and Le Er, five, were queueing up for the Duck Tour ride.

“He suddenly couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move, and couldn’t speak, and he had to sit down... I was worried, but he told us to go ahead and play first. Honestly, I was quite bad, I left my husband behind,” Ada recalled.

She noted that similar episodes had occurred twice before. In fact, Max had undergone an ECG in March that showed no issues.

Though Max’s condition improved after resting, the next morning, he broke down in tears telling Ada that he thought he might have died the day before.

“He said, ‘At that moment, looking at the three of you, I thought if I lay down, I might never see you again. I told myself I could not fall asleep. I must stand up. And I did. I’m so grateful.’ He spoke while I cried. I had never seen him like that before,” she shared.

After returning to Hong Kong, Max immediately sought medical treatment. Tests revealed nearly 80 per cent artery blockage and he had to undergo an emergency stent procedure.

Calling his survival a miracle, Ada said she collapsed in tears when she found out how serious it was.

“That moment made me realise how quickly life can end. I hugged him, thanked God, and was just so grateful he survived. If something had happened, I would have gone crazy!” she said.

Having survived the ordeal, Ada said the whole family now cherishes life more.

Max has also adopted a healthier lifestyle, cutting out oily and spicy foods.

“I’m really thankful. I almost became a widow! And he nearly died abroad,” said Ada.
