By now, you would’ve heard about the iPhone that survived the 5,000m drop from the Alaska Airlines flight where an aircraft panel had blown off mid-air on Jan 5. And the iPhone remained perfectly intact too. It was found still in airplane mode, with the screen still opened on the Alaskan Airlines baggage claim e-mail for that particular flight.

Even as more pressing questions about the accident on the Boeing 737 Max 9 plane are still being investigated, there was one question that was on many people’s minds: What phone case was on the iPhone and how could they buy one?

Device accessories maker Spigen confirmed in a post on X that the phone case on the iPhone that survived the 16,000 ft fall from the Alaskan Airlines flight is the Spigen Cryo Armor phone case. And we’ve sussed out the best deals on the phone case, which is available in a plethora of versions for both iPhones and Android phones.

In a post on X, Spigen said that a friend of the owner of the phone had e-mailed them to inform them that the phone case was a Spigen one. And the company came prepared with the receipts, posting screenshots of their e-mail exchange and photos of the phone and the phone case.

The phone was first found on Jan 8 on the side of the road in Washington state, and immediately went viral after Sean Bates, who picked up the phone, saw that the iPhone not only survived the massive drop from the Boeing 737 Max 9 plane “without a scratch”. The device was still switched on in airplane mode, and had 44 per cent of battery life left, and as fate would have it, the screen was locked and an e-mail from Alaska Airlines about baggage receipt on the flight.

Spigen Cryo Armor: Key features
The Cryo Armor is touted to have military-grade certified drop protected with its Air Cushion Technology, which, well, has now been proven effective. Apart from that, Spigen touts the product to be able to reduce heat with in-built graphite and silicone sheets, and it’s also able to increase airflow, thanks to the woven AirCube pattern. The Cryo Armor is also compatible for wireless charging and has raised edges to protect the phone screen and camera.

What shoppers love about it
Is it the phone, or is it the phone case? Or is it both? Whatever it is that helped the iPhone survive a fall from a plane, the Spigen Cryo Armor has racked up a 4.5 out of 5 star rating from shoppers. Presumably, these folks’ phones have not undergone as rigorous a test as the Alaskan Airlines incident, but reviewers nonetheless still had great things to say about it. " The case not only shields against everyday bumps and scratches but also adds a sense of durability that instills confidence in the safety of my device," said one satisfied buyer on Amazon
