Robinsons has gone into liquidation after 162 years, and there’s a closing down sale happening from Nov 6, 2020 at its remaining two stores. The struggling retailer had announced its closure on Oct 30 due to the impact of Covid-19 and e-commerce competition.

Empty shelves, messy displays
During our visit to The Heeren outlet on Nov 1 after the closure announcement, the six-storey store was in a state of chaos, with empty shelves and goods strewn about. There was also no closing down sale. It appeared that there was nothing much that customers could buy, even if they had vouchers on hand.

Sale slated to end sometime in mid to end-Dec
Robinsons' appointed liquidator, KordaMentha, estimates that the sale will wrap up sometime around mid to end-Dec. But the liquidator tells us: “A date has not been set as yet for the completion of the sale of the stock as this ultimately depends on retail shoppers’ appetite for Robinsons’ stock.”
