Not just for exes named Xiao Qiang.

Were you left crushed like a cockroach after a break-up? Here’s a way to get some closure.

For US$10 (S$13.30), San Antonio Zoo will let you name a cockroach after your ex or any other “not-so-special someone” who bugs you, according to the website.

There are other choices on the menu, too — veggies go for US$5, and a rodent fetches top dollar at US$25 (extra worth it if your ex’s name is Mickey, we think). The campaign is open to anyone in the world, so there could very well be a cockroach named Xiao Qiang getting fed to animals in San Antonio Zoo.

All donors receive a Valentine’s Day digital card, and also have the option to send said exes a digital V-Day card informing them that a cockroach, rodent or veggie has been named after them and fed to an animal at the zoo.

Among the animals who get to enjoy the roaches on V-Day is Notch the opossum, who’s the unofficial mascot of the zoo, according to San Antonio Report. Veggies will be fed to the zoo’s herbivores, including tortoises, while pre-frozen rats are fed to Komodo dragons, among others.

The zoo will even make personalised videos of your cockroach, rodent or veggie getting fed to the animals in the zoo and send it to your not-so-special someone for US$150. However, this option is now sold out.

The ‘Cry Me A Cockroach’ fundraiser has become San Antonio’s annual Valentine’s Day tradition after it first started in 2020. Last year, it raised over US$80,000. Proceeds go towards supporting “the zoo’s vision of securing a future for wildlife in Texas and around the world”, it states.

Last year’s top names, it reveals, were Jacob and Sarah. The most submitted names so far this year are Zach, Ray and Adam, CNN reports.
