The Hungry Ghost Festival (aka the seventh month of the lunar calendar) is when the gates of hell are open and spirits get to roam the land of the living for an entire month, according to Chinese beliefs. In 2020, it spans from Aug 19 to Sep 16. The Seventh Month is usually associated with a few things: spirits, burning offerings, getais (well, perhaps not right now during Phase 2)…and our mothers and grandmothers reminding us about the multitude of superstitions surrounding the Hungry Ghost Festival.
