Public Holidays In Singapore 2024: Which Are The Best Days To Take Leave & How Can You Maximise The 5 Long Weekends?

The list of 11 public holidays in Singapore for 2024 has been released, and we have five long weekends to look forward to this year, down from the eight long weekends we enjoyed last year.
Which are the best days to take annual leave next year? Should you plan it around long weekends and public holidays? Or do you avoid them like the plague, no thanks to sky-high airfares? Either way, you’ll want to use every bit of your leave wisely.
Herewith, public holidays in Singapore in 2024, and how to best maximise your annual leave.
Jan 1 (Mon): New Year’s Day
Take leave on: -
What it works out to: The first of five long weekends of the year.
Feb 10 (Sat), Feb 11 (Sun), Feb 12 (Mon): Chinese New Year
Take leave on: -
What it works out to: A three-day weekend full of feast-ivities.
For an even longer break: Chope leave from Feb 13-16 to jet off for a nine-day holiday (Feb 10-18). Perfect if you’re planning to dodge nosey relatives.
Mar 29 (Fri): Good Friday
Take leave on: -
What it works out to: The third long weekend of the year, aka another chance for a short getaway. Bintan, anyone?
Apr 10 (Wed): Hari Raya Puasa
Take leave on: Apr 8-9 or Apr 11-12
What it works out to: Two days of leave for a five-day break.
For an even longer break: Take leave from Apr 1-5 and 8-9, and make use of the Good Friday PH on Mar 29 for an extra long break. Seven days of annual in exchange for a whopping 13-day break (Mar 29-Apr 10). Great for a jaunt in Europe or Down Under.
May 1 (Wed): Labour Day
Take leave on: Apr 29-30 or May 2-3
What it works out to: Five days off work with just two days of leave. Time for Seoul searching, perhaps?
May 22 (Wed): Vesak Day
Take leave on: May 20-21 or 23-24
What it works out to: Two days of leave for a five-day break.
Jun 17 (Mon): Hari Raya Haji
Take leave on: -
What it works out to: Another extended weekend.
Aug 9 (Fri): National Day
Take leave on: -
What it works out to: The fifth and final long weekend of the year.
Oct 31 (Thur): Deepavali
Take leave on: Nov 1
What it works out to: One day of leave gives you a four-day break.
Dec 25 (Wed): Christmas Day
Take leave on: Dec 26-27 and 31
What it works out to: For three days of annual leave, you get eight days off work from Dec 25 to Jan 1, 2025.
For those who value cheap airfares over travelling around public holidays, consider planning your vacays around the months where there's a dearth of public holidays.
