Gojek Drivers Recount Ghostly Encounters On The Job, Including 'Passengers' That They Didn’t Even Know Were In The Car

A few months ago, Gojek driver Joanna L was driving along River Valley Road when she received a job from a passenger waiting at Orchard Central, just past midnight. It was supposed to be just a regular ride, albeit one after a few hours of driving and Joanna was getting tired.

Upon reaching the pick-up point, she spotted a passenger seated on a bench waiting. “She looked a lot like the passenger in the photo [on the app], but after we made eye contact, she didn’t make a move and turned back to her phone instead. So I figured she wasn’t my rider,” said Joanna, who decided to lay back and zone out to rest for a bit.

But she was startled by the sound of the car door opening and closing, despite the car doors being locked. She turned to look but only saw the same woman who’d been waiting, and who was now walking towards the car. She unlocked the car for the woman to enter, who apologised immediately, saying: “Sorry, I didn’t notice your previous passenger had left.”

Thing is, there had been no passenger in her car.

To Joanna’s horror, the woman told her that there was a passenger seated right behind her, decked out in a white dress, who was with her when she arrived. Gulp.

This is just one of the final 12 spooky stories from Gojek’s new podcast series, Gojek Driver Spooky Stories , which has just been launched on Spotify. As part of Halloween festivities, the ride-hailing company asked drivers to submit their spookiest encounters while on the job, and received over 300 submissions.

A word of caution: Some of the stories are spooktacularly chilling, to say the least. Well, at least the next time we boo-k a Gojek ride, we know that… the driver’s probably got nerves of steel when it comes to supernatural encounters.
