In 1985, Steven Spielberg made inroads into TV Land — where he got his start — with the anthology series Amazing Stories. (That was the same year reboots of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone were launched.) The Emmy-winning series featured all kinds of stories — fantasy, sci-fi and horror — and big-name directors (Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood). Brad Bird worked on the animated ep, Season 2’s ‘Family Dog’, which later spawned its own show.
Judging from the first trailer for the Apple TV+ reboot — by Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz — it’s sticking to the predecessor’s playbook. The trailer is a montage of scenes from its first “five unique stories”, and the ones which caught our eye have the late Robert Forster (Breaking Bad) playing a grandpa with extraordindary powers (in the ‘Dynoman and the Volt’ ep, directed by The Spy Who Dumped Me's Susanna Foge).
Meanwhile, can Apple TV+ (or Netflix) stream the original series? Pretty please.
Amazing Stories premieres on Apple TV+ on Mar 6
