Beleaguered actor Shia LaBeouf is said to be "actively" seeking treatment following allegations of abuse from his ex-girlfriend, singer FKA Twigs, Variety reported.
Earlier this month, the 32-year-old British singer FKA Twigs — whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett — filed a lawsuit in Los Angele Superior Court against LaBeouf, accusing him of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress during their 11-month relationship which ended in 2019.
Shia, 34, is also hit by a lawsuit by filed by another ex-girlfriend, stylist Karolyn Pho, alleging him of similar behaviour.
The Transformers star’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, told Variety Thursday (Dec 24) that his client is seeking help. In a statement to the publication, Holley said, “Shia needs help and he knows that. We are actively seeking the kind of meaningful, intensive, long-term, inpatient treatment that he desperately needs.”
The Variety article also shed light on the real reason why Shia was replaced by Harry Styles in in the thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, the highly anticipated follow-up to Olivia Wilde’s directorial breakout, Booksmart.
Contrary to the previous reports back in September that Shia left the project due to a scheduling conflict, he was actually booted out from the movie, which also stars Florence Pugh and Chris Pine.
Insiders told Variety that Shia was fired by Olivia because he “displayed poor behaviour and his style clashed with the cast and the crew. “He is not an easy guy to work with,” one source revealed, and on top of that, Olivia, who’s known for having a “zero ass**** policy on her sets — found Shia “off-putting”.
Shortly after FKA Twigs filed her lawsuit, Shia, in an e-mail to The New York Times, insisted the allegations against him were untrue.
He said, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
Following FKA Twigs' lawsuit, several people who have come out in support of the singer, including Sia, who accused LaBeouf on Twitter of being a “pathological liar” who conned the singer-songwriter into “an adulterous relationship”.
Shia is currently dating Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood actress Margaret Qualley, whose mother is Andie McDowell. Shia and Margaret previously portrayed lovers in her sister Rainey's music video for ‘Love Me Like You Hate Me’, which dropped in October.
Shia’s next movie is the acclaimed marital drama Pieces of a Woman, co-starring Vanessa Kirby, which starts streaming January 7 on Netflix.
