It’s been a while since we’ve last seen Rick Moranis. The Canadian actor is best known for playing the bespectacled nerdy hero in a string of ’80s and ’90s movies (Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids); his last on-screen appearance was in 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!
In February, Disney announced that that Moranis, now 67, will reprise his scientist role of Wayne Szalinski for a reboot of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Alas, that Disney+ project is still in pre-production. Good news is, we don't have to wait too long to see Moranis again.
On Wednesday (Sept 9), Moranis turned up in a new commercial alongside Ryan Reynolds for Mint Mobile, the low-cost mobile carrier of which Reynolds is an owner.
In the 42-sec ad, Moranis asks Reynolds why he’s there and a clearly star-struck Reynolds says, “I’m a huge fan.” “That’s it?” Moranis responds. “That’s it,” Reynolds replies. Moranis then walks away.
It’s a simple cameo but we’re pretty certain Moranis is adequately compensated for his trouble. Meanwhile, Reynolds' new movie, Free Guy, opens in cinemas Dec 10.
