After 10 weeks of intense competition, O.M.A. were crowned the winner of Anugerah, Mediacorp’s flagship Malay talent show.
At the grand finale held on Friday (Apr 9), O.M.A. (which stands for One Metre Apart) brought the house down with renditions of ‘Salam Terakhir’, a tune they picked themselves, and ‘Sinaran’, a song chosen by resident judges Najip Ali, Ann Hussein and guest judge and veteran rocker Ramli Sarip.
The multi-racial band — featuring vocalist/guitarist Abdul Thaqif Bani, keyboardist Ho Zhi Ren, drummer Anson Koh Soon Yew, guitarist Sures s/o Ravindran, and bassist Chia Chong Yu — edged out the competition and walked away with $25,000.
Saát was named first runner-up while the second runner-up went to Ace Iskandar and third-runner-up Raliff Ismail. They each won a trophy and cash prize of $8,000, $5,000, and $3,000, respectively.
The evening's other highlights include performances by Singapore Idol Hady Mirza and past Anugerah winners Hyrul Anuar (2005) and Mohd Shahfiq (2017).
