John Krasinski Works At A New Office On 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan'

This new Jack Ryan is a cross between Jack Bauer and Jim Halpert.

Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst hero in the Tom Clancy novels, is back.

Unlike the other actors who’ve played Ryan (Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine), Krasinski’s incarnation has a more everyman, almost adorkable quality, something that has served him well on nine years of The Office

His role in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi also prepared him to be a believable action hero. So, this Jack Ryan is a cross between Jack Bauer and Jim Halpert.

In his first field assignment, Ryan, paired with mentor James Greer (Suits’ Wendell Pierce), is tasked with tracking down a terrorist touted as the next Osama bin Laden.

What follows is like two seasons of Homeland compressed into eight episodes, with Carrie Mathison now played by a dude.

It’s a pacey, absorbing thriller, even though a sub-plot involving a drone pilot slows things down a bit. But as thrilling as it is, it’s also upsetting to watch sometimes. What if the bad guys in the real world pick up tips from the show on planning a terrorist attack?
