Marvel Studios has dropped the trailer for its first animated series What If…?, — and fans will get to see (hear) Chadwick Boseman one last time as T’Challa.
The upcoming 10-part Disney series reimagines famous events from the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance, what if Peggy Carter becomes a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers. And what if T’Challa isn’t Black Panther but Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Each episode is narrated by The Watcher, an omnipotent observer of the multiverses, voiced by Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige first revealed about Boseman’s involvement in What If…? in an interview with Emmy Magazine in December.
Before Boseman’s death last August from colon cancer, “[He] came in about four times and recorded numerous episodes,” said Feige. “In hindsight, it's very moving.”
Director Ryan Coogler recently started production on the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for release in the US on July 8, 2022.
What If…? premieres Aug 11 on Disney+, with new episodes on Wednesdays.
