HBO Is Developing A Series Based On Boon Joon-Ho’s Award-winning Parasite

Director Boon Joon-Ho and ‘Succession’ EP Adam McKay are teaming up!

Coming soon to HBO: a limited series based on Boon Joon-Ho’s critically acclaimed Parasite.

According to Variety, the South Korean director and The Big Short helmer and Succession executive producer Adam McKay are in talks to do make the series based on the drama, which recently won best foreign language film at the Golden Globes.

Parasite, which is tipped to be a Best Picture nominee at next month’s Oscars, is about a poor family (led by Song Kang-Ho) conning their way into the employ of a tech tycoon (Lee Yun-Kyun), with hilarious and disastrous results.

This isn’t the first time a Boon Joon-Ho movie is being remade into a TV show. His 2013 sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer has been adapted into a series starring Jennifer Connelly, which is slated to premiere later this year.

At press time, it isn’t known if Parasite the series will be a straight-up English language do-over or “some kind of spin-off”. Whatever it is, just don’t mess up, okay?

The Oscar nominations will be announced on Monday (Jan 13).

Parasite will premiere on tvN Movies On Demand (StarHub Ch 819) on Feb 15.
