Elliot Page Files For Divorce After 3 Years Of Marriage

Elliot Page and Emma Portner have been apart for months before their divorce announcement on Tuesday (Jan 26).

Elliot Page has filed for divorce from Emma Portner.

The Umbrella Academy star — who recently came out as transgender — filed for a contested divorce on Tuesday (Jan 26) in Manhattan Supreme Court, the New York Post's Page Six reports.

The former couple have confirmed in a joint statement that they have decided to formally end their marriage after splitting from one another in the summer last year.

Revealing they actually broke up a few months back, the pair said: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."

Their split comes three years after they announced that they got married in 2018. Elliot and Emma, a Broadway Dance Centre teacher, started dating in 2017.

News of the divorce comes two months after the Juno star came out as a transgender man.

Elliot posted in December to announce he had changed his name, as well as declaring his pronouns are he/they, admitting he felt "profoundly happy right now".

He wrote at the time: "Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I also ask for patience. My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the “jokes” and of violence. To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering." — BANG
