David Lynch Is Back To Make TV Weird Again With 'Twin Peaks: The Return'

Is 'Twin Peaks' now part of the world of 'Lost Highway' and 'Mulholland Drive'?

Bravo to the return of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. After 25 years, will we find out what really happened to FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) after the Season 2 cliffhanger (where he’s trapped in an alternate dimension)?

Half-way through the 18-ep revival, there are still no clear answers, only more questions — which by Lynch’s standards is normal ’cos he does abstract, not accessible. Especially now that Lynch’s working on cable TV, he gets to be wilder and weirder, and at times, Twin Peaks feels like it’s part of the twisty and twisted universe of Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.

Along the long and winding dreamy road, Lynch surprises us with lots of kooky cameos (Michael Cera! Tim Roth! Naomi Watts!) and musical performances (Nine Inch Nails! Chromatics! Au Revoir Simone!). The best reveal yet: we finally meet, in the flesh, Diane, Cooper’s secretary, who’s always mentioned but never seen in the original series.

Watch It On: Fox, Singtel TV Ch 330 & StarHub Ch 505; Fox+.
