What To Expect When Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market Arrives In Singapore For 3 Months Next Year

Uh, of course not. It’s not called the world’s largest weekend market for nothing. The real McCoy is sprawled over a whopping 10 hectares, while the Singapore edition will take up about 40,000 sq ft. Artbox, the other well-loved Thai market that has made its way to Singapore, started here in 2017 with 50,000 sq ft before progressing to the 200,000 sq ft of space this year all the way in Kranji. But contrary to popular belief, it’s not always about size.

Like we said, size doesn’t matter — not when Chatuchak Market will be in Singapore for a good three months from Feb 4 to May 3, 2020. In comparison, Artbox, though held over a bigger space, happened over two weekends.

Over 1,000 vendors will be selling stuff. For three months, both Thai and Singapore-based vendors will be rotated each week, so there are over 200 vendors hawking their goods, food and services (who’s up for a Thai massage?) at any one time.

Expect your usual faves that you’d find in Chatuchak, such as handicraft, clothes, home décor and, of course, street food. F&B stalls will take up over 100 stalls, while over 80 are retail booths.

Spaces left are “extremely limited” but if you’re a vendor and want in on the action, you still can apply for a slot via the official website.

We reckon the organisers understand that every Chatuchak Market outing is a workout in itself. So, yes, there’ll be a space with over 400 seats for you to chill out, eat, and rest those fatigued legs.

Sadly, not by tuk-tuk. But here are two words that’ll surely perk you up: Free parking. There’s complimentary parking at The Grandstand while Chatuchak Market is on. But there may or may not be congested traffic here, so if you don’t want to take your chances, there are complimentary shuttle services as well. More details to follow.
