We Were At Johor Bahru’s Largest New Mall Capital 21 On Opening Day — Here's What To Expect

We checked out the new mall on opening day. Most of it is still under renovation, by the way.

Johor Bahru’s largest mall, Capital 21, officially opened its doors yesterday (Oct 17). The six-storey mega-mall boasts 1,602 retail units and themed zones modelled after cities from five continents: Asia, the Americas, Europe, Australia/Oceania and Africa. Yup, it’s pretty much like Bangkok’s Terminal 21. Except wait, there’s more!

The fourth floor of the mall is occupied by a massive family-friendly indoor theme park run by Malaysian company MCM Studio (no relation to the US media giant Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, or MGM Studios). It’s divided into three areas: the kid-friendly Cartoon Planet, Movie Planet with movie-themed rides and Music Planet offering live circus acts and theatre performances.

We turned up at the mall on its opening day, not knowing what to expect. Getting there involved a 15-minute Grab ride (with no traffic jam) from Woodlands Causeway. It cost RM13 (S$4.30). Our driver was confused about the address, till we told him: “That big new mall.”
