We Went On A Sold-Out Tour Inside Singapore Airlines To See How Pilots & Cabin Crew Train, And Ate An In-Flight Meal

It's a rare look inside the SIA Training Centre, complete with flight simulators, emergency slides, and of course, SQ girls.

We Went On A Sold-Out Tour Inside Singapore Airlines To See How Pilots & Cabin Crew Train, And Ate An In-Flight Meal

"Isn't it weird to have all these people coming in and looking at where you train?" I asked a pilot who was stationed to welcome visitors at the SIA Training Centre Flight Simulator facility. "Yes, a little," he replied with a smile. 8days.sg was on the Inside Singapore Airlines tour, which sold out within a day of its launch, and we've been traipsing all morning into areas previously never seen by the public... until now.

The tours (which are $30 for adults and $15 for kids, inclusive of a free in-flight meal) will run for only two weekends in November, and members of the public jumped at the chance to check out what goes on behind the scenes in SIA, as they opened up their training facility in Upper Changi. Add-on activities such as the Junior cabin crew experience ($88) and Junior pilot experience ($68) for kids (more pics of the kiddo cabin crew experience below), as well as the Wine appreciation ($38) and Grooming workshops ($88) are also sold out. Maybe people are just starved and desperate for anything related to travel, or maybe we realised that if not for Covid and how it has impacted the industry, we'd never have this rare and affordable opportunity to see the place where cabin crew are trained to deal with aircraft emergencies, and the mock-up plane cabins where SQ girls learn how to handle passengers.

If you're not one of those who chiong-ed and were lucky enough to get your hands on a tour ticket, we'll take you on a little photo journey of our time at the SIA Training Centre. Fasten your seatbelts.
