Dare to Roam

Telco Circles.Life is sending folks on a Pokémon mission as part of the launch of its latest travel subscription plan. The family-friendly Dare to Roam event will see participants racing to complete a themed stamp mission by overcoming challenges such as scouring for lost luggage. There’ll also be a Pokémon meet-and-greet with the likes of Pikachu, Piplup, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble, interactive booths and F&B stalls hawking local bites. Registration ends Oct 26.

Candlelight concert at Haw Par Villa

The folklore theme park will be illuminated by thousands of candles at a special outdoor edition of a Candlelight concert (they’re usually held indoors at venues like CHIJMES; main photo). Catch classical renditions of pop tunes — from Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ to the Stranger Things theme song — amid the statues and dioramas of Haw Par Villa lit up by candles. Now that’s a Halloween you won’t forget anytime soon.

Avatar: The Experience

Described as an “immersive-walkthrough event”, Avatar: The Experience will transform the Cloud Forest into the otherworldly realm of Pandora. The experiential journey is split into five zones and will feature bioluminescent environments, mystical creatures and flora via mesmerising installations and photo opps (see a full preview here)

Gamebox

It’s all about fun and games at the neon-tastic gaming extravaganza, Gamebox, which brings together a whole host of arcade and multi-player games for folks to duke it out and even win shopping vouchers in the process. Happening from Oct 21 to Nov 6 at Paya Lebar Quarter’s PLQ Plaza, the gaming arena is split into three zones, where there are 10 arcade games and multiplayer games, including favourites like Froggie, Bishi Bashi and Tower Game.

To play, you’ll have to redeem a free base pass — spend at least $80 ($60 for Lendlease Plus members) at Paya Lebar Quarter to redeem. Those who sign up to be a Lendlease Plus member at PLQ Plaza get a base pass and receive 10,000 Plus$ instantly. Members of the public get one free play at any arena, and to join the express queue, spend $20 in a single receipt.

There’s also a Games Bazaar teeming with stalls hawking gaming-related items, including an old-school toy booth. Fridays to Sundays will see some 11 homegrown talents belt out hits on stage from 7pm onwards.

Pelago's Silent Disco in the Sky

Party perched atop Marina Bay Sands at the SkyPark Observation Deck with the breathtaking city views in the backdrop for eight nights in October and November. Not only that, revellers get to choose what music they want to party to. The must-have accessory of the night: wireless headphones.

Yes, the electrifying silent disco event is back after a pandemic-induced pause. Each night, three live DJs will helm the decks and party-goers can pick their dance tunes of choice — rock anthems, EDM bangers or top 40s pop — via one of three channels on the provided headsets. Toggle between all three channels if you so wish. All that’s left to do is to go dancing under the stars. Tickets are $50 each.

Nodes at Parks

The National Library Board’s (NLB) roving series of interactive installations features a Sustainability Showcase, a supermarket-like pop-up filled with upcycled products (think exercise mats made from shoe waste) and even a book donation and exchange corner. Visitors will also find QR codes to access e-resources on sustainable food production, food waste, single-use plastics and upcycling, as well as the support of local produce. Keep your eyes peeled for 16 sustainable benches produced from recycled wood and given a vibrant makeover by students from seven secondary schools. These aren’t just great for photo opps — scan QR codes on each bench to access NLB’s sustainability content while you sit down, smell the roses, and get inspired to live more sustainably.

Lunchtime Concerts at ACM

Need to quickly destress over lunchtime? Here’s one unique way to do it. Pop in to Asian Civilisations on Fridays in October and November for free lunchtime concerts held in partnership with Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Soak in an hour of classical music – and you may even catch an original composition, ‘Zoomorphic Muses – An Afternoon at the Museum’, which draws inspiration from ACM’s collection.

Mental: Colours of Wellbeing

Guiding visitors to delve deeper into stereotypes around mental health is this exhibition features 24 interactive exhibits, large-scale installations and art projects, seven of which were created by homegrown artists. It’s as much as a personal, intimate journey as it is gaining perspectives of mental health and making connections in this day and age — be prepared not only to marvel at the installations, but also to reflect on this introspective journey.

A Flight to Remember

Jurong Bird Park’s last day of operations will be on Jan 3, 2023, exactly 52 years since its opening. From Sep 3 to Jan 3, 2023, it’s holding a series of events to celebrate the park before it moves to its new nest at Bird Paradise in Mandai Wildlife Reserve in the second quarter of 2023.

Go on a self-guided trail of Jurong Bird Park and take time to explore with heritage displays along the way that illustrate the park’s milestones. Launching in November is a Nostalgic Signature Tour where seasoned guides guide visitors through the park’s history (tour bookings open Oct 19), as well as a nostalgic food festival with traditional pushcarts selling hawker fare and carnival activities.

Halloween Horror Nights

Things are getting spooktacular at Universal Studios Singapore once more, with Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) making a comeback after a two-year hiatus.
