Staycation Review: Parkroyal Collection Pickering's Infinity Pool Isn't The Only Insta-Worthy & Fun Thing About A Staycay Here

Sometimes all you want during a staycation is the tranquility of nature; other times, you’re all about living the high life like a true city slicker. What if you crave a bit of everything? Parkroyal Collection Pickering offers the best of both worlds, as we found out recently on a 3D2N staycay.

The room

We checked into a Collection Lifestyle Room (room rates from $410++ per night), with a view that overlooks Hong Lim Park and beyond.

Booking any one of the six Collection room categories means you have Collection Club privileges, which include:
- Access to the Collection Club Lounge at Level 16 from 7am to 10.30pm
- Champagne breakfast from 7-10.30am on Mondays to Saturdays and 7-11am on Sundays
- Afternoon tea from 2-4pm
- Evening cocktails from 6-8pm
- Exclusive access to outdoor rooftop terraces
- All-day refreshments (non-alcoholic)
- Two pieces of laundry per room per day
- Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages in minibar (all items are replenished once daily)

Our room is already spacious, but it feels even larger, thanks to the soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, which flaunt the views of the vicinity nicely. The lush greenery that drapes the hotel exterior (an extension of Hong Lim Park that’s right at its doorstep) not only frames the view, it almost acts as a veil and makes you feel like you’re in the midst of a forest hideaway, rather than the city centre.

Everything you need for a cuppa or a nightcap is hidden in these cupboards.

Clearing e-mails during a staycation is less painful with a view like this.

Most hotel corridors are just that — a long hallway with not much else. With a view like this at our room entrance, this hotel corridor is not one of them.

Hotel facilities

The Collection Club Lounge proves to be somewhat like our second home during this staycay. Armed with full Collection Club privileges, we find ourselves spending a chunk of time here, soaking in the 360-degree views of the city (there’s always something new to gaze at/Instagram no matter where you sit) as we enjoy champagne breakfast/afternoon tea/evening cocktails.

Breakfast with a view.

Perhaps the most photographed spot of the hotel is its infinity pool and the bird-cage cabanas (there’s only one cabana that overhangs and is most popular for OOTDs).

Evening dip, anyone?

Guests have to pre-book pool time (maximum of one-and-a-half hours per guest per day), and you’ll even get a pooltime snack surprise. Pity it's raining the entire weekend we’re here. No matter, there were plenty of activities in the hotel that we’ve got lined up.

Hotel activities

When the hotel reopened on Nov 1, it also introduced a whole host of complimentary activities for hotel guests, including yoga, Pilates, cooking classes and wine tasting sessions. We opt for a garden tour and a mixology class.

The 30-min garden tour takes us around the 300m-long garden walk perched on the fifth storey of the hotel, where we discover the secrets behind the building’s greenery (and there’s a lot of it, 15,000 sqm, to be exact), and a peek at an often-overlooked mezzanine level with a hidden waterfall that makes for a great photo spot.

You’ll get to explore the herb garden that’s managed by Lime Restaurant’s chefs.

Our mixology class is scheduled for the afternoon, which is fine by us because day drinking during a staycation makes perfect sense.
In 30 minutes, we concoct two cocktails each, and learn heaps on how the hotel bar incorporates eco-friendly ways of doing things, such as using blemished but perfectly edible fruits as garnishes. A great way to spend the afternoon, if you ask us. No, it’s not the alcohol talking.
