These are two unconventional parties you should check out this weekend.
#1: Attend a farewell shindig
After 11 years, the New Majestic Hotel is closing its doors on June 1. In true superstar fashion, the boutique hotel is going out with a bang before it’s transformed into a members-only club. We’re talking a two-day pop-up extravaganza to celebrate art and design — over 60 designers and brands are staging a takeover of the hotel grounds (yes, all four storeys, even the rooms!) with installations, workshops, stalls and bars. Keep your eyes peeled for labels like Depression, max.tan, Ying the Label, and Carrie K. Jewellery, among others. Fuel up with food and a tipple from Preparazzi, The Little Bastard, Vasco and more, or load up on liquid courage from The Straits Wine Company or William Grant & Sons — before you get inked by a select group of tattoo artists (psst, it’s for a good cause). What: Multiply: A Majestic Playground | When: May 27 and 28, 11am to 10pm | Where: New Majestic Hotel, 31-37 Bukit Pasoh Rd.
#2: Party at a carpark
The Golden Mile Tower carpark will be transformed into an intimate, gritty art gallery (organisers promise none of “the pretentiousness and ‘Do not touch’ signs”) as well as an art market. Expect parking lots transformed into spaces for installations, games and even live performances. It’s all part of the third anniversary celebrations of The Local People, who’d previously transformed disused spaces like the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and the People’s Park Complex rooftop carpark into indie party central (above). And what’s a birthday party without booze, right? The Projector’s Intermission Bar helms booze-related matters for the night. For more info, go to https://www.facebook.com/events/1403099536444241.
What: Park Art Here | When: May 27, 6pm to midnight| Where: Golden Mile Tower Carpark Level 5, 6001 Beach Road.
