The most anticipated video game the year, Red Dead Redemption II will be out this Friday (Oct 26). The latest open-world adventure from Rockstar Games, the creators of Grand Theft Auto, promises to be wilder and hell more addictive than the first one which came out in 2010.
A quick recap: Red Dead Redemption is set in the American West, circa 1911, and you play John Marston, a retired outlaw coerced by the authorities into hunting down your former cohorts. Then you’re off patrolling the vast badlands, shooting your way from one dusty town to another.
This brings us to Red Dead Redemption II, which is actually a prequel that takes place 12 years before the events in the original game. This time, you are Arthur Morgan, the lead enforcer of the notorious Van der Linde gang, on the run following a bloody heist. (John Marston, a member of the outfit, makes a cameo appearance.)
If you’re new to Red Dead Redemption, think of it as Grand Theft Horses. Better yet, pretend it’s your own Westworld, where you don’t need to be filthy rich to access this fantasy playground and embrace the virtual lawlessness without suffering the consequences in the real world.
We recently attended a hands-on preview where we got to channel our inner Man in Black and wreak havoc and mayhem to our heart’s content. (At least until we were escorted out of the premises by security guards.) Here’s what to expect from the blockbuster game that’s going make you kiss your social life good-bye.
Red Dead Redemption II will be out Oct 26 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
