Pikachu & Other Pokémon Are Now At The Sakura Floral Display At Gardens By The Bay

Can’t make it to Japan in time for this year’s sakura season? No problem. Gardens by the Bay (GBTB) isn’t just bringing cherry blossoms to you, they’ve got the Pokémon gang in on the fun as well.

From Mar 11 to Apr 9, the sakura floral display at Gardens by the Bay will feature Pokémon characters interspersed throughout so you can catch ’em all — on camera, that is.

In addition, Pikachu and pals will be making appearances at the eighth edition of the sakura display at GBTB. Visitors will get to meet Sakura Afro Pikachu (and that fluffy pink hairdo!), who makes his first appearance outside of Japan on Mar 18 (Sat) from 1pm to 1.30pm, and Mar 19 (Sun) at 10am to 10.30am and 1pm to 1.30pm. Don’t miss out on the Pikachu dance performances happening on Mar 18 at 11am and 2pm as well.

This year’s edition centres on the theme of travel so you can expect scenic spots in Japan peppered around the Flower Dome, from beautiful torii gates and even Mt Fuji. Besides the Pink-achu festivities, there's also a slew of fringe activities that will certainly delight fans, whether they’ve visited Japan since they’ve reopened or not. These are happening for the first time since the pandemic too, might we add.

Mark Mar 19 down on your calendars, for that's when most of the activities are taking place. 

Try your hand at mochi pounding from 11am to 7pm, revel in traditional Japanese string instruments and folk dance performances (11am-11.30am and 12.30pm-1pm), and drum performances (2pm-2.45pm and 3.45pm-4.30pm). Live demonstrations of chado (or traditional Japanese tea ceremonies) are happening on Mar 19 (four sessions from 10.30am to 2.30pm) and Mar 25-26. There’s also a screening of Belle, a Japanese film that traces the ups and downs after a high school student is transformed into someone else in a virtual world, at 4.30pm.
