Over 80 Collection Points For You To Donate Old Shoes, Which Will Be Recycled Into Running Tracks & Playgrounds
It's a shoe-in.
The next time you’re clearing out your shoe cabinet, don’t just throw those old kicks away. Do good for the earth and donate them to recycle as part of Sport SG’s shoe waste collection program.
Yes, you can now donate sports shoes, school shoes and other rubberised footwear at over 80 collection points islandwide, and these will be recycled.
What shoes can you donate?
According to Active SG, all rubberised shoes — including sports shoes, school shoes and football boots (without metal studs) — are accepted. Rubberised slippers and sandals without metal parts can be donated too. Make sure shoes are dry and generally clean — soiled shoes will lead to contamination.
The shoes collected will be sent to a grinding facility and converted into granular material that’s used to make running tracks, playgrounds, fitness corners, gym mats, among others. According to Active SG, there are plans to use other parts of the shoe to develop prototypes for sporting equipment as well.
Where to drop off old shoes for recycling
Look out for these bins (above, right) at over 80 locations such as stadiums, schools and Decathlon outlets.
