Markets, Festivals And Performances To Check Out This Weekend (Jul 7 to 9)

It doesn’t matter if you’re into the arts, Instagram or good ol’ retail therapy — there’s something for you this weekend.

#1: Add a little drama to your life.

There will be theatre, music, dance and even stand-up performances aplenty at the Gateway Theatre Opening Festival to mark the opening of the new nine-storey theatre venue. Featuring husband-and-wife comedy duo Rishi and Sharul, jazz band The Steve McQueens and a film screening of Ilo Ilo, among others. Kids can keep busy learning to make puppets and terrariums and more. For the full line-up, go to https://www.facebook.com/GatewayTheatreSG/

Gateway Theatre Opening Festival, Jul 7 to 9 at Gateway Theatre, 3615 Jalan Bukit Merah

#2: Have an epic Instagram-worthy picnic.

It promises to be weird and wonderful. We think this Tiong Bahru Bakery-organised shindig is gonna be one to remember. Just make sure you go there hungry.

Weird Wonderful World, Jul 8 to 9, 9am to 8pm at the Singapore Botanic Gardens

#3: Shop with the cool cats.

This is Zouk’s inaugural Flea & Easy bazaar at its new(ish) Clarke Quay digs. Browse through an eclectic array knick knacks that run the gamut from clothes to home décor; revel in open mic performances and DJ sets; or fuel up with grub like chilli crab poppers — and booze, of course. Pets, kids and anyone looking for a fun day out are welcome. For more info, go to https://www.facebook.com/zouksingapore.

Zouk Flea & Easy X Sunset Pasar, Jul 9, 12-7pm at Zouk Singapore, #01-05 The Cannery, 3C River Valley Rd

#4: Get arty-farty.

Goodman Arts Centre is probably the closest we have to an authentic creative village for artists, performers to hone their craft. And this weekend, the artists will open their doors to the public at Tanjong Goodman, which features open studio guided tours, workshops and performances. There’s also a market where you can stock up on everything from homemade sauces and cold-pressed juices to baby goods and artisanal crafts and accessories. It also marks the launch of The Artground, a new children’s arts centre that’ll thrill your munchkin as much as it would your Instagram followers. For more info, go to https://www.goodmanartscentre.sg/events/tanjong-goodman/

Tanjong Goodman, Jul 8, 11am to 5pm at Goodman Arts Centre, 90 Goodman Rd
