The Mandai Rainforest Resort is nestled amid lush greenery at Mandai Wildlife Reserve and overlooks Upper Seletar Reservoir. As we traipsed around to explore the sprawling resort, it feels like we’re in a resort in Bali. It doesn’t feel like you’re in Singapore, yet the resort is located just minutes away from attractions such as the Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise and the latest Rainforest Wild Asia.
But as with any hotel or resort, not all guest rooms are created equal. The Mandai Rainforest Resort has 338 guest rooms in various categories— including standard rooms, family rooms and treehouses.
Which one has the best views? Which one gives you the most bang for buck? And which one gives you exclusive access to that Insta-worthy pool pod that you’ve been seeing all over social media?
The one with the best views: The Mandai Treehouse
But not just any of the 24 treehouses available on the resort. The treehouses are split across the property — there are 12 each in the East and West sections of the resort. Treehouses in the East side have the best, most un-Singapore type views you can get. We’re talking about scenic vistas of the reservoir lined with lush greenery, and superb sunrises. Treehouses in the West section have views of expansive greenery, just as serene and scenic, but there are no sunrise views.
Needless to say, the Treehouses are the top tier rooms here, in terms of experience and price point — room rates start from $1,025 per night.
What about the views in the hotel rooms?
All other guest rooms are located within the sprawling four-storey hotel complex, where you get views of the tranquil reservoir even from the hotel elevators. But if you want to soak in the vibes and views from the comfort of your own room, what do you go for?
In a nutshell, rooms of various categories are split into three main sections: Retreat, Rainforest and Sanctuary. Rooms prefixed with Retreat give you views of Mandai; choose a room that has Rainforest in its room category if you want greenery or garden views. Book Sanctuary (pictured below) if you want endless reservoir views (even the bathrooms come with the same views). Room rates start at a more wallet-friendly price point of $305.
Best rooms for families
Family staycations are possible here at Mandai Rainforest Resort, with rooms specially designed for family bonding time in mind. Like all other rooms, they’re split into Rainforest (greenery views) or Sanctuary (reservoir views). At 474 sq ft, the family rooms are more spacious than the standard guest rooms (388 sq ft) and come with a kids bunk bed and a play/chill out nook below. There’s even a pull-down screen that can separate the kids bunk bed from the rest of the room — perfect if the kids need to go to bed earlier. Room rates from $433.
Forage is one of the two dining options at the resort, and comes with fab views of the surrounds too.
