Giveaway: Free Tickets To The World’s First Tokidoki River Cruise

The 40-minute Singapore River cruise starts from Clarke Quay (you board the boat outside McGettigan’s Irish Pub). During the cruise, you will pass by local landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer. Sure, this may seem a tad too touristy if you’re Singaporean, but hey, it’s not every day that you get to see Singapore’s landmarks from the middle of a river.

This Tokidoki Merlion does not spew water, but it looks as friendly as, er, Singa the Lion as it holds court at the open-air end of the bumboat. The cruise will also pass by the real Merlion attraction, so get your camera ready.

Italy-born artist Simone Legno is the co-founder of Tokidoki, and was recently in town to meet the press for the maiden voyage of the cruise. He’s also the dude who created the ‘Singaporean’ Tokidoki characters as a tribute to his love of the country, having been visiting here for the past decade. Contrary to popular belief that Tokidoki is a Japanese brand with its pop-hued crew of kawaii characters, it’s actually from, gasp, Los Angeles.

No expense was spared in Tokidoki-fying the bumboat; the characters adorn every surface area on the boat including benches and the ceiling.

Also Insta-worthy: the two gigantic statues of a critter called Donutella (which, er, looks like a smiling donut-covered girl) and Sandy, an edgy personified cactus who, according to the Tokidoki website, zips herself into a succulent suit as “the world is a cold and scary place and [she] needs some armour to face it”. How morbidly cute.

You can’t see this from the inside of the bumboat, but the facade of the boat is plastered with Tokidoki’s cheerful crew as well. Look out for the bumboat parked by the side of the Singapore river before its departure timings to grab a snapshot of it. The cruise takes place three times a day, at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm. It costs $58 per pax, and each ticket includes exclusive Tokidoki merch like a lanyard and a cardholder pouch.
