Free Art Workshops (Marbling!), Storytelling For Kids & A Green Market This Saturday, Anyone?
Arty fun and a sustainable lifestyle market at the one-day Goodman Open House – Re:Imagined festival.
If you've never been to Goodman Arts Centre at Mountbatten, this Saturday, May 26, is a good day to hit up the sprawling art ground. Previously a school, the place is now filled with theatre, dance and music companies, art studios and all other manner of arty schools and cultural communities. On May 26, from 11am to 5pm, the space will host the annual Goodman Open House. This year, it's called Goodman Open House – Re:Imagined, and centres on environmentally-sustainable ways to create and present art. Besides over 20 different workshops (mostly free!) and performances by Goodman’s resident artists and arts groups, there will be interactive exhibitions, hands-on workshops led by artists, and the Goodman Green Green Market, featuring fresh produce from eco-friendly farmers in Singapore.
Sure to be popular: Paper Marbling
One of the free art workshops is paper marbling by printmaking artist Jeff Ang of Artefakts. Come early for this one, 'cos it's sure to be a hot ticket. Basically, you create swirly patterns with paint in water which can stick onto special paper. The patterns are beautiful and so amazingly simple, even a two-year-old could do it (true story!). Also on the workshop menu: Pottery and glassware crash courses by Goodman Ceramic Studios and CAN! The workshop, by Dutch mixed-media artist Iskander Walen, which puts a playful spin on Andy Warhol’s iconic Campbell soup can artworks.

Storytelling: Once upon a time...
Another must stop is My Little Story by The Storytelling Centre, where kids and kidults get to spin their own versions of classic folk and fairy tales as they create simple crafts and props for roleplaying. Young festivalgoers can also groove, sing and jam along to the live music by Little Creatures, or learn more about the traditional art of crosstalk after a performance showcase by the Young People's Performing Arts Ensemble.
An inclusive visual playground for people of all abilities.
Look out for larger-than-life cardboard sculptures created by cardboard artist Bartholomew Ting for Superhero Me – Exhibition, at the atrium of Block O. The inclusive arts movement Superhero Me creates an interactive play space suitable for children (and adults) of all abilities. Families can also participate in a wheelchair-accessible obstacle course or join in a range of workshops which empower children of diverse abilities and backgrounds to socialise and gain empathy for others through the arts.
Goodman Green Green Market
A highlight of the fest is a sustainable lifestyle market which will feature close to 30 eco-conscious vendors, including the Singapore Farmers’ Market. Expect fresh local produce and reusable products.

Sounds like a great day out to us. Food and drinks will be available at Café Melba at Goodman Arts Centre as well as food trucks by Coffee Bandits and The Travelling C.O.W. on site. As part of the festival’s efforts to go green, festivalgoers are strongly encouraged to join the movement and bring their own reusable utensils, including straws. Sweet.
