Stream of Memory

As part of its In New Light: A Season of Commissions programme, Esplanade presents Stream of Memory by the internationally acclaimed Papermoon Puppet Theatre (Indonesia) featuring Singapore creatives and dancers. A non-verbal puppetry inspired by the disappearing rivers and our connection with nature, it follows Sang and Jun as they befriend Kali and discover who the giant is. This is an hour-long, family-friendly production that you and your six-year-olds (recommended) will enjoy.
Dec 13 – 18; Singtel Waterfront Theatre. Tickets from $30.

Home Grooves: A History of Singapore’s Live Music Venues

In PopLore – A Year of Singapore Popular Music, Home Grooves: A History of Singapore’s Live Music Venues chronicles 60 years of offering colourful live music spaces in an exhibition of archival photographs and memorabilia (like musical instruments, albums and costumes), video interviews and music playlists. Call it a love letter to Singapore’s iconic live music spaces from the 1960s to the present. Be transported back to the Swinging Sixties when your grandparents were youths and places such as National Theatre and Golden Venus were all the rage, or explore the indie and jazz music scenes of recent decades.
Till Aug 18, 2023; Esplanade Concourse. Free admission.

Singtel Waterfront Theatre

Esplanade — or simply #MyDurian as it has come to be affectionately known — is an architectural marvel, where artsy dreams are made of. But in order to entertain its visitors with more Singapore and Asian stories, a new multi-format, mid-sized venue was planned to fill the gap between its existing large performance halls and smaller studio spaces. Taking five years to materialise, the Singtel Waterfront Theatre along the Esplanade waterfront opened its doors recently.

Building Dreams documents the building of the Singtel Waterfront Theatre in a photo exhibition by Bob Lee, formerly a Lianhe Zaobao photojournalist.

Building Dreams
Hear the stories from people who literally built it: the architect who designed the multi-configured theatre; the contractor who navigated the construction complications, manpower shortages and government restrictions during the pandemic; and the Esplanade staff handling project management, technical production and customer experience.
Till Mar 31, 2023; Singtel Waterfront Theatre (along the facade and level two foyer). Free admission.
The Next Wave

And how better to bid adieu to 2022 than with a series of New Year’s Eve concerts? In line with Esplanade’s December theme of “Come Together” – where new and old friendships are being celebrated; artists and kindred spirits come together for a time of collaboration, reflection and revelry – the NYE line-up, titled The Next Wave, opens to the public for free and will feature local artists (pictured above, from left) Narysal, motifs, Shazza and more.
Dec 31, from 6.45pm at the Esplanade Concourse and Outdoor Theatre.

Gather your family/friends for a tour

Want to learn about architecture photography from seasoned lensmen? Or are you keen on some vocal training at the Lee Wei Song School of Music? You can do both and more, by signing up for When Stars Align, one of Esplanade’s six guided tours. When Stars Align is a series of four tours, each lasting 1.5 hours, inspired by four horoscope elements: Fire, Earth, Air and Water.

Remember to dress comfortably, and make sure your phone battery is at full charge because you will be snapping away during the tours.
