Phase 2 (heightened alert), mini circuit breaker, CB-lite. Call it what you want, but from May 16 to June 13, life in Singapore won’t be quite the same with the tighter Covid-19 measures in place. With group sizes limited to just two, among other capacity restrictions in public spaces, checking crowd sizes before you go out — whether it’s to run errands at the mall, library, or even Daiso — has become essential once more. Don’t check, and you risk having to wait in line to enter, say, the bank, or dodging the unmasked crowds at the park.
Thank goodness for these online maps and crowd control websites that tell you just how packed various places in Singapore are. Most were launched last year during the circuit breaker, left forgotten as we moseyed into Phase 3, and are once more relevant as we’ve just headed into a Phase 2 v2.

Space Out

This website was launched by URA last April during CB, so you may have used it before. Otherwise, here’s a refresher: Green, yellow and red circles on the map indicate, in real time, capacity levels in places such as malls, supermarkets, and markets across the island. Click in on a specific location and it’ll show you when it typically gets crowded — or not — so you can better your time, or check out less packed alternatives nearby.
Safe Distance @ Parks

Now that most gyms and fitness studios are closed, exercising outdoors is among the few ways to keep fit. NParks’ Safe Distance @ Parks online map, also launched during CB last year, indicates the crowd levels at parks across Singapore, as well as general trends for human traffic at the venue throughout the week.
Daiso

With an uproar over Daiso’s (initial) closure during CB and the subsequent long queues at its stores when it reopened, Daiso's launch of this website last year was a welcome move. Find out just how crowded the 26 Daiso and Threppy stores around Singapore are before you go. While the updates aren’t in real time (it looks to be updated a couple of times a day), it indicates when each outlet is typically less packed, so you can plan your trip down or if you should just shop online instead (https://daisosingapore.myshopify.com/).
Libraries

From May 16 to June 13, libraries can operate only at 25 per cent capacity, so you probably should check visitorship levels before you go. The NLB site indicates visitorship levels at The National Library, 26 public libraries, the National Archives of Singapore and the Former Ford Factory — categorised as ‘not crowded’, ‘some crowd’, ‘crowded’ or ‘full’. The service is also available on its app. A great tool for parents or anyone who doesn’t fancy making the trek down to the library only to be turned away or have to queue to get in. Museums

This National Heritage Board’s site lets you check the crowd situation at its five museums (which are currently operating at 25 per cent capacity as well) — the National Museum of Singapore, the Asian Civilisations Museum, Indian Heritage Centre, Malay Heritage Centre and the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall.
UOB outlets

This crowd indicator at UOB’s website lets you check crowd levels at the bank’s 41 branches. It may only be refreshed once a week on Sundays at 4pm, but it gives you an indication as to when various outlets typically get crowded, and tells you when’s a good time to visit a particular branch, based on historical trends.
